“The wisdom of the ancients is still true and applicable.”

Okinawan Proverb

Baguazhang, as an entire martial and health system, has a very limited amount of written documentation from the period of its development. In fact, most of the written documentation on the system started roughly fifty to seventy years after Dong Haichuan started teaching the method in the mid-1800’s. The exception is a series of “songs”, which were passed down verbally to students. The exact date that these songs were committed to print is unknown, but today they can be found in numerous bagazhang source texts. The “songs” contain advanced teachings in relation to the finer aspects of the art. Repeated readings, over a period of time, should provide additional insight in this art as your individual skill level increases.
