Dr. Xie Peiqi: I would like to introduce the Hooking strike. The Hooking strike comes after the Sweeping, Smashing, and Chopping strikes. That is, it is the last of the first four attacking methods in the Lion System. It includes yin and yang, internal and external. It also contains the Bagua concept of mutually benefiting and limiting, opposing and defeating. Why am I talking about his? Because the force of the Hooking strike is fundamental different than the Sweeping, Smashing, and Chopping attack methods.
With the Sweeping, Smashing, and Chopping strikes the middle strike is the

middle strike; the lower strike is the lower strike: the upper strike is the upper strike. The hooking strike is different. As one strike can cover all three levels. Why do we say the hooking disperses because you use the hooking strike to dissolve and disperse the opponent’s force allowing your own strike to enter.
Many of you are familiar with He Jinbao. As these videos primarily feature him doing the forms and moves. The two of us will demonstrate a few Hooking strike demonstrations. Let’s say he comes to strike me. I hook strike to disperse the attack and then I can strike him easily. This is when I am defending as he has attacked first. If I was to Hook strike him and then follow with a second hooking strike, I create an opening to strike the body. It can also be used to counter to being seized.
If He Jinbao goes to strike and then grabs me. This move is also a hooking strike. It breaks apart his grip or I could move to this position with a hooking strike, opening for an attack. If he grabs me I could use two hooking strikes in a row to break his arms. As always, this shows that the practice and application of Yin Style Bagua is very well thought out.
It is also worth noting this variation. I rise up with the hook, exposing lots of good places for striking and if I wanted to grasp him, I could also begin with a hooking strike> I hook, then follow the easy opening.
It is very natural, intuitive, scientific, and thought out.
I will end this basic introduction here and hope that you enjoy this video. We will try to improve with each tape. Each more deep and profound and it will take many, many videos to document this system. I hope they will be excellent reference material and encourage everyone to study well and deeply.
